Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPB)

Central Valley Flood System 2012 Conservation Framework and 2017 Conservation Strategy (DWR)

In 2012, the Department of Water Resources launched the Regional Flood Management Planning effort, a locally led process that will result in Regional Flood Management Plans (RFMP) for the regions identified in the 2012 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan. Though there were originally nine regions, some of the regions have joined together, leading to the six regions described in the draft Regional Flood Atlases that were developed as part of the RFMP effort.

Maps in the atlases show flood risk characteristics and hazards for each region. They include the following information:

  • Local Maintaining Agencies
  • Flood control facilities
  • Levee conditions
  • FEMA 100-year floodplain
  • General land use types
  • Managed environmental lands
  • Riparian vegetation, critical habitat, and endangered and threatened species
